Man facing court after Brisbane siege drama
POLICE have charged a man after he allegedly made threats during a tense two hour siege in the Brisbane suburb of Banyo overnight.
Police declared an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act at 11.13 Thursday night.
It was revoked at 1.48 this morning.
Police will allege that the man made threats at a Vincents Road address. It is understood a 26-year-old woman was with at the time.
Nine News reported she was held hostage for about 30 minutes before she was released.
Police tried to negotiate with the man via phone but he failed to answer.
They had to resort to using loud speakers.
Two replica firearms were found at the scene.
A 49-year-old Banyo man has been charged with one count each of deprivation of liberty, common assault and unlawful possession of weapons.
He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
