Man fined for 'breaking up' brawl

A BRIBIE Island man who became embroiled in a mate's brawl with security guards has copped a $1000 fine.

Stephen Mark Wallace, 38, believed it was an unfair "two-against-one" fight and he wanted to break it up.

He had been drinking with his mate at the Blue Pacific Hotel at Woorim on September 4, 2010.

Brisbane District Court heard Wallace's mate, who is yet to be sentenced, was asked to leave but returned and became aggressive with guards.

Wallace pleaded guilty to assaulting one of the security officers when he intervened.

Judge Richard Jones said he was lucky he did not cause any injuries, though his mate did.

He said Wallace was old enough to know better than to get involved.
