Man goes missing on late-night dive

A search-and-rescue mission has been launched for a diver who went missing off Magnetic Island near Townsville overnight.

Police said the man was last seen diving off Horseshoe Bay about 10.30pm.

A rescue helicopter with a paramedic on board was dispatched to the area to search.

The circumstances around why the man was diving were unclear.
