Man ‘kicked, punched’ in violent alleged roadside assault

Police have arrested a group of people after they allegedly violently assaulted a good Samaritan who pulled over to help a man lying across the road in Noosa.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Daren Edwards said a 22-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were arrested last week for allegedly punching and kicking the man after he pulled over when he saw someone lying across the road at the Noosa Bus Shelter on August 27.

Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said a 46-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were driving when they saw the man and pulled over to assist.

The alleged victim got out of the passenger seat, but when he went to help the man he was allegedly approached by several other people who told him to leave the man alone.

Sen-Sgt Edwards said the 46-year-old man told the group he was trying to help before he was allegedly punched and kicked several times.

He was able to escape back to the car, and the woman drove away.

The group have all been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in company.

The adult offenders will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on October 12 and the 17-year-old boy will appear in the Maroochydore Children’s Court on October 7.
