WE SAY: Marathon effort shows potential

OUR VIEW: THE sunny, clear skies were a sign of things to come.

Not only was yesterday's much-anticipated Sunshine Coast Marathon a great success, with locals and even internationals competitors and fans gathering as one, it also served as an indicator of much more on the way.

While 2014 certainly hasn't been shabby so far, all indicators seem to point to 2016 blowing us away.

It's a big one for milestones, but also a stunning one as far as opportunity for future events go.

Yet it will only work if we can work together.

As Mr O'Pray pointed out, we need to start preparing for these events now.

After all, the groundwork's been done - the base for a successful 12 months was already in place through events such as the Mooloolaba Triathlon, the Sunshine Coast Marathon, the Noosa Food and Wine Festival, the Real Food Festival, the Garden Expo and the Winter Bowls Carnival, which was the region's longest-running sporting event.

Let's not let that go to waste.

We've been asked to support a record year of economic activity, and yesterday's taste of success should serve as an excellent reminder of what we can achieve. Let's continue to reach higher towards 2016.
