Mariners wary of Castro threat

CENTRAL Coast Mariners coach Paul Okon says keeping the shackles on Johnny Warren Medal holder Diego Castro will go a long way to success against the Perth Glory tonight.

"He (Castro) plays on the left, he'll be close to me on the bench at some stage, so I might have to trip him over as he's running past,” Okon joked yesterday.

"We need to limit the supply to him and make sure he doesn't have too much involvement in the game.”

The former Socceroo said it was not only the Spaniard his team had to be aware of at Central Coast Stadium, saying the Glory attack was one of the best in the competition.

"We're aware that we need to stop Castro, (Andy) Keogh, (Adam) Taggart, (Chris) Harold ... a front four that on paper is probably up there with any of the attacking weapons in the A-League,” he said.

The Mariners are on the bottom of the ladder on goal difference and have had only two wins this season.

Okon said there was no point in moping about where the team was on the ladder and said there was still time to turn the season around.

"If you're going to feel sorry for yourself, maybe you might have that opinion or those thoughts, but I'm a big believer in 'the ladder doesn't lie',” he said.

"Certainly not after 27 rounds, it's maybe not telling the true story at the moment.

"There's enough games left for us ... but really at the moment it's not looking too far ahead.”
