LIONS star Daniel Merrett said he would do everything he could to stop Crows forward Kurt Tippett kicking a bagful of goals when the teams meet at the Gabba on Saturday night.
But if the rumour mill is right, the pair will be teammates next season.
Tippett, who hasn't played since round 17 after picking up his third concussion for the season, is yet to re-sign with the Crows amid reports he is set to return home to Queensland.
But don't expect an announcement before the end of the season.
The AFL yesterday moved to stop the code following in the footsteps of the NRL which saw a procession of players in recent months announce they had signed with new clubs from next season - some even switched teams mid-season.
AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said any club that reached a binding agreement with a player from another club before that player had finished his season would be fined $100,000, double the previous penalty.
Discussions may still be held during the season, but they must be "non-binding".
The AFL has also banned clubs from paying commissions to player agents in return for their clients' signatures
