VETERANS and guests are set to come together to remember the Battle of Long Tan at Bribie Island's 25th Vietnam Veterans Day event.

Vietnam Veterans Association secretary Jock Young said the day was all about honouring and remembering those who have served in Vietnam.

"The main reason for Vietnam Veterans Day is to honour and remember those who went to Vietnam and especially those who gave their lives," Mr Young said.

"It also enables mates to get together again.

"It's a chance to catch up for a lot of veterans and their guests."

Mr Young said it was special to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the event but the association had decided to keep the day traditional to past events.

"Every one of these days are special," he said.

"Of course hosting Bribie's 25th Vietnam Veterans Day is an important milestone though.

"But the only thing that's new is we're older and maybe not as brisk when we march."

The Vietnam Veterans Day march and service will take place on August 18 with the march starting at the Bribie Island Sports Club at 4.05pm and leading down to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park where the service will begin at 4.20pm.

Mr Young suggests arriving for the march at 3.55pm to ensure everyone is organised on time.

Drivers should be warned that several roads will be closed for around 30 minutes but detours will be in place.

For further information, phone the Vietnam Veterans Association Secretary on 34080405.
