Mitcham through in 10m platform

DEFENDING Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham has qualified for Saturday's 10-metre platform semi-finals, while countryman James Connor is still in with a slim chance.

Mitcham, who took gold in Beijing four years ago, recorded a total score of 457.20 to qualify ninth for the next round.

"I wasn't really happy [with his performance], but I'm happy that I made it through (to the final)," he said.

"I felt like I dived pretty scrappily.

"The fact that I came ninth is just indicative that everybody else had a pretty scrappy prelim as well."
