MKR mums Bree and Jessica can't find their mojo
COUGHING is not the reaction you want from someone who tries your food.
Luckily for Green twins Helena and Vikki it didn't send them to sudden death on My Kitchen Rules tonight.
The sisters narrowly survived their showdown against mums Bree and Jessica, whose overcooked and watery cauliflower sauce sealed their fate.
Tonight's first head-to-head challenges saw the six teams from Wednesday's pop-up restaurant challenge, with winners Paul and Blair and losers Carly and Tresne watching from the sidelines, face off against one another.
Bree and Jessica earned most money out of the six teams and got first pick of their opponents.
But judges Manu Feildel and Pete Evans revealed that the opponents would pick the meat both teams had to use.
The mums chose to cook against uni students Thalia and Bianca, who chose game meats in the hopes of throwing Bree and Jessica off their game.
Cathy and Anna were the next highest earners and chose to cook against Helena and Vikki, who reliably selected lamb.
That left Josh and Danielle to choose the protein for themselves and Kelly and Chloe.
The food scientists chose fish, deciding to stay away from offal.
Cathy and Anna shared their over with the twins, but their generosity didn't end up hurting them.
With both teams cooking their lamb well, the mum and daughter's extra elements helped them avoid showdown.
"We usually say less is more, but not today; sensational dish," Evans said.
Despite Evans saying he could eat Josh and Danielle's barramundi dish "day in and day out", Kelly and Chloe's perfect Mediterranean sardines just pipped them at the post.
Thalia and Bianca took the biggest risk of the day, choosing to cook a game meat they had never cooked before.
But it paid off, with Bree and Jessica's lychee salad just a tad unbalanced.
"You were questioning if the squab was over or under," Feildel told the Tassie girls.
"Well let me tell you, it was melting in the mouth."
In the second round, each of the three losing teams had to cook one course in a three-course meal.
The mums quickly picked entrée and the twins bagged dessert, leaving Josh and Danielle with the main course.
Josh was angry at ending up in the showdown and Feildel gave him a pep talk to help him refocus.
He and Danielle ended up producing one of the best dishes of the season.
"I don't know how but you ended up creating probably the best dish in the competition," Feildel said.
"You just went all the way today."
Evans called the dish "out of control", bringing Danielle to tears.
The feedback wasn't so good for the other two teams.
The mums had issues with their cauliflower sauce, which was more like sautéed cauliflower than a liquid sauce.
"Your dish was very dry. Your cauliflower was overcooked and watery," Feildel said.
"And I can't believe I've got to say what I'm going to say. Where was the sauce?"
Feildel's coughing fit looked set to doom Helena and Vikki.
But the girls' overcooked tart was saved by their rhubarb coulis.
"I was looking forward to the filling… but what I got was dried. I needed a glass of water," Feildel said.
"Lucky that you made a beautiful coulis on the side. Pouring it over the tart made it manageable."
Tomorrow night Bree and Jessica will cook against Carly and Tresne in sudden death.
