Big Dry is over: More rain on the way, thunderstorms looming

MORE rain is on the way with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting thunderstorms for late this morning or this afternoon following big dry breaking falls on Monday that saw more than 100mm recorded in parts of the Sunshine Coast.

While not as intense as Monday's downpour, BOM forecaster Aditi Sharan said the Sunshine Coast could expect up to 30mm of rain in places today along the coast.

Rain today would take falls for the first three days of October to more than 150mm, two and a half times the amount received for the previous four months.

The weather is expected to clear from tomorrow with shower activity into a drier Thursday, however Ms Sharan said there remained a chance of further thunderstorms on Friday.

Today will be mostly cloudy with the chance of thunderstorm easing into this evening.

Winds from the south-east at 15-25kmh will become light later on a day where the temperature would peak at 24 degrees.

It is expected to reach 27 degrees tomorrow after an overnight low of 15, on a partly cloudy day with a medium chance of rain in the morning and afternoon and with the possibility of thunder storm activity.

Thursday would also be partly cloudy with a temperature peak of 27 degrees, light winds and the chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.

Friday would see the day time peak climb to 28 degrees with light winds early becoming northerly at 15-25kmh later in the day.

There remains a chance of showers on a partly cloudy Saturday to start the weekend but winds would be light and remain so through to Sunday, which is expected to see a peak of 27 degrees on a mostly sunny day.
