Heard of water babies? Meet these water mummies...

YOU'VE heard of water babies. Now get ready to meet the water mummies.

Pregnancy-specific sessions called Bump Classes will begin at the Kawana Aquatic Centre in October.

Aqua trainer Jacquie Geniola said after seeing the high number of pregnant women attending regular aquarobics classes, she decided to tailor-make a class for mums-to-be.

Everything from music to exercises would be specialised, Mrs Geniola said.

"It's aimed at the younger people, so they can have their type of music," she said.

A former registered nurse, Mrs Geniola said the exercises would be tailored to strengthen the muscles used during childbirth, including maintaining the pelvic floor and strengthening abdominal walls.

With many expectant mums wary about exercising, Mrs Geniola said the Bump Classes would be easy enough even for novice exercisers.

"The mothers will be educated along the way as to what's wrong and right," she said. "The water is supportive, so it's much more comfort

able when you're at the later stages."

Bump Classes will start on October 7 and will be held every Tuesday at 12.30pm.
