Murder charge to go to trial

TOOWOOMBA man Desleigh John Henderson has been committed to stand trial for the murder of his de facto wife.

Henderson, 58, is accused of killing his de facto wife Christine Malone, 50, whose body was found in the couple's Gaydon St home in Newtown on July 12 last year.

No official cause of death has as yet been released by the police but it is believed Ms Malone, who suffered multiple sclerosis, had been strangled.

Henderson has been held in custody since his arrest in July last year but has not as yet been required to enter any plea to the charge.

At the conclusion of a hand-up committal in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, Magistrate Damian Carroll committed Henderson to the Toowoomba Supreme Court to stand trial on the charge of murder.

No date was set for the trial and Henderson was remanded in custody.
