RUGBY SEVENS: Australian men's sevens coach Andy Friend has named a new-look squad for the 2016-17 World Series opener, with five players to make their series debuts in Dubai on December 2-3.

The new faces are Sam Caslick, Michael Adams, Simon Kennewell, Charlie Taylor and Tim Anstee.

With the injured Lewis Holland still unavailable, Sam Myers will lead the team in Dubai.

Kennewell played on the wing for Australia at this year's under-20 World Cup, while Anstee won a sevens silver medal for Australia at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.

Taylor played NSW Cup rugby league for the Wests Tigers and represented NSW Schoolboys rugby in 2012-13.

"This is an exciting period for this young group of guys after an intense pre-season,” Friend said. "We learnt a lot from the Oceania Sevens tournament and this group is showing real potential with a lot of young players really putting their hand up for future opportunities.”

The squad: Sam Myers (c), Ed Jenkins, Michael Adams, Connor Mitchell, Boyd Killingworth, Alex Gibbon, Simon Kennewell, Pat McCutcheon, Sam Caslick, Henry Hutchison, James Stannard, Charlie Taylor, Tim Anstee.
