UPDATE 1.17 PM: Police have addressed the media after revealing earlier today that a woman was stabbed by a sword in Tewantin on Sunday morning. 

Sunshine Coast Acting Detective Senior Sargent Damon Harbison said the 22-year-old woman had been trying to deescalate an argument between her partner and their 45-year-old neighbour, when their neighbour pierced a garage roller door with a sword. 

"We understand it was a minor incident initially over some noise at the unit complex," Acting Detective Senior Sargent Damon Harbison said. 

"I believe they were having a verbal confrontation through a closed roller door.

"The male offender is alleged to have thrust the sword through the roller door - that has pierced the roller door and stabbed her in the back.

"Unfortunately a male chose to arm himself with a weapon and now faces some serious charges as a result."

Harbison said that police do not believe the 45-year-old Tewantin man tried to deliberately stab the woman.

"It's not suggested that the male attempted to deliberately stab the female victim," he said.

"She was stabbed as a result of his actions."

 Acting Detective Senior Sargent Damon Harbison said, although having a sword at home is perfectly legal, arming yourself with a weapon in public is not acceptable.

"It becomes an issue obviously if (a sword is) taken into public places," he said.

"I'd just like to emphasise that arming yourself with a weapon is not a way to solve a problem.

"It will only exacerbate the problem - it could potentially lead to serious injuries, serious criminal charges, and possibly a prison sentence."

The 45-year-old Tewantin man will appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 31 on a charge of unlawful wounding. 

EARLIER 11.30: POLICE say a dispute between two neighbours over loud noise may have led to a woman being stabbed in the buttock.

Police allege that a 45-year-old Tewantin man thrusted a sword through a garage door of a Sunshine Coast property, resulting in the stabbing of a 22-year-old woman.

Emergency services were called to the Moorindil Street address in the Noosa suburb of Tewantin, just after 12.30am on Sunday morning.

A 22-year-old woman had suffered a laceration wound to her buttock.

She was treated on-scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The 45-year-old man has been charged with unlawful wounding and is scheduled to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 31.
