New wheels please
LUCA Neuvonen is a 14-year-old who loves music and going to the beach like any other teenager.
But life for him is very different to most, and now his mother Susan is in need of a new car to accommodate Luca and his wheelchairs.
"He was born with cerebral palsy and he was born 10 weeks premature,” Susan said.
Luca also has a vision impairment, epilepsy and coeliac disease; what is an everyday task for many can present itself as impossible.
"He can't do anything on his own, he needs help with everything.”
Despite this, Susan says, "he is very happy, laughs a lot and enjoys his life”.
"Luca loves music and doesn't go anywhere without his iPod.”
As a single Marcus Beach mum, Susan cares for Luca full-time with support from family and friends.
"Our car isn't very suitable now Luca is nearly as tall as me,” she said.
"We need something to transport Luca and his equipment and all our luggage.”
Luca has two wheelchairs; one for the beach and one for everyday use.
"He loves going outdoors and being in the water,” Susan said.
"Right now we are so jam-packed,” she said.
After extensive research Susan believes she has found a car that will suit their needs but it comes with a $30,000 price tag.
"We are hoping we'll be able to get the car soon.
"It will make such a difference to Luca's life.”
The page has already raised about $15,000 and Susan says she is extremely grateful for the community support.
