Newman put on spot over Caloundra South project

NICKLIN MP Peter Wellington has asked Premier Campbell Newman to break the cone of silence over the future cost to Sunshine Coast Council ratepayers of infrastructure to support the massive Caloundra South development to accommodate 50,000 people.

Mr Wellington placed a formal question on notice to the Premier yesterday.

"With respect to the ongoing uncertainty about how much money Sunshine Coast ratepayers will have to contribute to subsidise the government-approved Caloundra South development, I ask: when will the Government announce what the Sunshine Coast Council's financial contribution to this new development will be?"

Mr Newman has a month to respond.

Mr Wellington said it was important the matter was not sidetracked until after the state elections in March next year.

"You can't blame Noosa for not wanting to be part of subsidising Caloundra South,'' he said. "That's one of the real reasons they broke away - because they were concerned about sweetheart deals between government and developers.''
