NFL clubs want second look at Taumololo, Holmes

AMERICAN FOOTBALL: The NRL welcomed back Jarryd Hayne with open arms after his brief dalliance with American football.

But, it now faces the distinct possibility that it will have farewell two more of its biggest stars to the NFL.

Joint-Dally M Medallist Jason Taumalolo, from North Queensland, and Valentine Holmes, who was a key member of Cronulla's premiership team, have both reportedly been invited back to the United States for a second trial with recruiting officers from the NFL.

Scouts from 14 NFL teams liked what they saw from the Cowboys star and Sharks youngster as they were put through their paces in a two-hour session, including drills, sprints and agility exercises in Los Angeles on Sunday.

According to News Corp, five clubs have formally expressed an interest in both players returning to again be tested in front of scouts.

There has been no time frame put on their return but one of the possibilities is the NFL's annual scouting combine.

This is held for a week in February and usually showcases the best college draft prospects, although it would clash with pre-season for the NRL and both the Cowboys and the Sharks would no doubt be reluctant to release the pair.

Taumalolo, 23, and Holmes, 21, have stressed they remain committed to their NRL teams for 2017 - the last years of their contracts - but would move to the States if offered something for 2018.

"To come over here and have another go at a sport is another challenge for us,” Taumalolo said.

Holmes and Taumalolo trialled in front of scouts from franchises including the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, Green Bay Packers, San Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks.
