In celebrating the contributions of Australian scientists, National Science Week, hopes to encourage interest in scientific pursuits and inspire people to become fascinated by the world in which we live.

Each year a National Science Week theme for schools is chosen to encourage young people to consider and connect to scientific studies. The schools' theme for 2014 is 'Food for our future: Science feeding the world' inspired by the International Year for Family Farming. It will focus on the role science plays in food production including topics like agricultural and environmental management, food processing technology, nutrition and food safety.
