Noosa hosts canoe action

CANOEING: Tomorrow the Noosa Outrigger Canoe Club will host Race 6 of the South Queensland Zone 2017 OC6 marathon series.

This is the final race of the series, and coupled with the reputation that Noosa Outrigger Canoe Club has of delivering well-run and deliciously catered regattas, it is expected that representatives from all 25 clubs in the South Queensland zone will enter teams.

Known fondly as the Laguna Bay Challenge, the races start and finish at Main Beach, just North of the rock wall. The large turnout of teams is expected because this is the last chance for teams to earn points for the SQ zone championships.

It is also the last competitive race before the National Marathon titles to be held at Mooloolaba on May 20.

Several Noosa teams in various age categories will fight hard to maintain lead or top-three rankings in the final season results. This will ensure racing will be filled with action and excitement.

From the first race starting at 7am, through to the last from 1pm, both the 16km long course and 8km short courses will run south from Noosa Main Beach along the coast line.

Both Noosa Main Beach and the national park coastal track will be great vantage points to catch the action

NOCC asks that locals and visitors be aware that canoe trailers will start to arrive at the Woods from Friday this afternoon and, from 5am tomorrow, more trailers and the many competitors will begin to arrive. NOCC has advised competitors that parking will be limited to ensure parking is available for other beach goers.

NOCC apologises for any parking inconveniences.
