Noosa Schoolies: Behaviour report card for first weekend

Schoolies gathered in "crazy" numbers of around the 4000 mark on Noosa's Main Beach until midnight when they were told to disperse by authorities.

Following day and night one of the week-long Schoolies celebrations, local police have praised the overall behaviour of revellers. .

Noosa Heads Police officer-in-charge Acting Sergeant Troy Cavell said there had been no instances of assaults or wilful damage reported.

He said the majority of school leavers were "good, friendly" kids.

There were, however, 10 people handed public nuisance notices, four charged with drug offences and 245 people instructed to pour out liquor.

"The numbers were a bit crazy, thousands on the beach until midnight," Sgt Cavell said.

"When you have that many intoxicated people together on the beach at once you have to expect issues, it's not a Sunday church group.

"It was really busy for Noosa."

Sgt Cavell said the majority of the crowd dispersed about midnight when the floodlights on the beach were switched off.

He said there had been complaints about the lack of an official event despite the COVID-19 pandemic not allowing one to be held in a safe manner.

A section of Noosa's Main Beach was closed for several hours on Sunday morning to clean up broken glass and rubbish left behind.

Here's a run down of the fines and enforcement actions issued in the Noosa Heads region on Saturday night, provided by Noosa police:

  • 40 x preventive actions and diversions conducted
  • 47 x licenced premises visits
  • 245 x liquor tip-outs
  • 5 x move on directions (to leave the Hastings St precinct)
  • 10 x public nuisance infringements issued,
  • 4 x drug offenders totally 9 charges)
  • 1 x possession of knife in a public place offence
  • 1 x blood alcohol content
  • 10 x liquor SETON (underage alcohol consumption or possession)
  • 18 x marine infringements issued
  • 52 x marine intercepts.
  • 8 x speed traffic infringement notices including 3 for burnouts, failure to provide a license and 11pm curfew restrictions.
  • 204 RBTs conditioned
  • 96 street checks

Queensland Ambulance Service reported 21 instances of calls for service, drug affected people and excess alcohol.

The Red Frogs also reported 14 incidents of intoxicated people.
