TWO Noosa Outrigger Canoe Club teams returned from Norfolk Island to take part in a major challenges set in idyllic surrounds and stunning coastline.

They were looking forward to contesting the fourth annual Norfolk Ocean Challenge Outrigger Regatta.

On their arrival, the paddlers were welcomed by a traditional fish fry by the Norfolk Island community.

Spread over a week, the competition consisted of a Round the Island race of 26kms held on Wednesday, March 29, which was won in fine style by the Noosa Men's crew,.

This determined lot was comprised of Des Mabbott, Harry Crockford, Dave Patterson, Peter Braden, Bodo Lenitschek and steerer Phil Bensted.

The following day, a 12km race from Emily Bay to Phillip Island and return also saw the men's team win line honours.

The Noosa women's team, Wendy Mabbott, Rhonda Crockford, Jacquie Irving, Dee Mooney, Bernie Patterson and steerer Tina Standish, were thrilled to receive third place in both the 26km and 12km races. On the final day of racing pursuit races for the Men, Women and Mixed teams were held with success for Noosa teams once again, winning an array of medals.

Presentation of medals, milled from the iconic Norfolk Island pines, was held in the precincts of the historic Kingston Penal Settlement. Once again, a magnificent traditional Island feast was served.
