Woman, 84, killed in head-on Cooroy crash
AN 84-year-old woman has died and two others have been injured when two cars collided head on in Cooroy on Thursday afternoon.
Around 12.50pm police were called to a two vehicle traffic crash at the Elm Street rail overpass, near Myall St.
Initial indications are the two vehicles travelling in opposite directions have collided with each other resulting in injuries to all occupants.
The 84-year-old woman who was a passenger of one vehicle was transported to hospital but died as a result of her injuries later.
Both drivers an 83-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were also taken to hospital.
Police said it appeared an eastbound vehicle had crossed into the path of a westbound vehicle.
Nobody was trapped, but firefighters cut the side off one of the vehicles to remove an injured woman.
Police are investigating whether fatigue or other factors contributed to the collision.
The 44-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle was hospitalised with a possible fractured pelvis.
Southbound traffic on the Bruce Hwy was brought to a standstill about 3.30pm by at least two other crashes.
A vehicle overturned between Nambour Connection Rd and the Bli Bli Rd. A caravan and two other vehicles collided shortly after. Nobody was seriously hurt.
The Forensic Crash Unit are continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
