Opals' focus is on Chinese team

OPALS coach Carrie Graf insists she is looking no further than the quarter-final match-up against China at 1.15am tomorrow morning.

But Graf knows exactly who her team will play - barring miracles - in the semi-finals.

"We have a quarter final against China - there are no more games after that (in our thoughts)," Graf said. "It is all out for them. We can't be thinking about how and when you meet the US."

And therein lies the problem. A win against China will pit the Opals against the all-conquering Americans who are shooting for their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal.

Australia finished second in its group after beating Canada 72-63 in the final pool game, twin towers Liz Cambage and Lauren Jackson leading the way with 19 and 18 points respectively.

To avoid a potential match-up against the US in the semis, the Aussies needed Russia to down France in the final Group B match.

But France took out that clash 65-54, the Russians, ranked equal second in the world with Australia, now avoiding the US until the gold medal game.
