Panthers claw victory to deny Cowboys
A MATT Moylan field goal in the 79th minute saw Penrith claim a stunning 23-22 victory over North Queensland last night.
Five-eighth Jamie Soward was the star for the Panthers, having a hand in all four of Penrith's tries and his pass for Moylan's last-gasp match winner that was the difference on a soaking night in Penrith. The win cemented Penrith's top-four spot, jumping over the Roosters into third spot, while the Cowboys remain in seventh spot on 26 points.
The Panthers took the blustery conditions out of the equation with three consecutive tries in the 11th, 27th and 33rd minutes to put themselves in a strong position as the sides battled to a 22-22 deadlock as the final hooter loomed. But Moylan's boot denied the Queenslanders a much needed victory.
Penrith 23 (Soward 2, Latimore, Mansour tries; Moylan 2, Soward goals, Moylan field goal) defeated North Queensland 22 (Linnett, Hall, Lui, Winterstein tries; Thurston 3 goals). Crowd: 7276.
