LETTER OF THE DAY: Paradise lost to city centre development
THIS beautiful snapshot of the much larger Horton Park Golf Club exemplifies just what a sad loss this environmental paradise is going to be with its days sadly numbered.
A recent correspondent lamented on the loss of bird life in Maroochydore. There is no shortage of wildlife at Horton Park, including 10 black swans at present.
It is a sad fact that the general public is oblivious to this beauty being on its doorstep, plumb in the middle of Maroochydore, and has resulted in apathy and muted protest.
Where are the "Greens" when you want them?
The council, in its wisdom, simply decides to make a compulsory purchase of this paradise in order to enlarge the city centre.
It would have been too simple to have utilised the area adjacent to the Homemaker shopping area or the Plaza itself wouldn't it?
Or to bulldoze and modernise "Op Shop Boulevard", once affectionately referred to by locals as Aerodrome Rd, before any attempt to vandalise Horton Park.
