Parents plead guilty to cruelty

PARENTS of a toddler with evidence of burns and fractures have pleaded guilty to cruelty.

The 21-year-old woman and 25-year-old man pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court today to causing harm by failing to provide adequate care or accommodation when it was available to them from their own resources.

The cruelty occurred between June 11, 2010, and October 28, 2010.

The pair were supposed to begin a trial today but they changed their plea at the last minute.

The Crown told the court they would seek a jail sentence for the man but a non-custodial sentence for the woman.

The case against the man was adjourned until September 7 so his defence team can seek a psychological report.

The court heard he was already being assessed by the Department of Child Safety.

The woman will be sentenced on Wednesday.
