CRICKET: A captain in Melbourne's grade cricket competition reckons returning Australian fast bowler James Pattinson "couldn't stop hitting sixes” against his side.

The injury-plagued paceman is easing his way back into cricket after suffering stress fractures in his back.

While he bowled four overs and claimed 2-25 for Dandenong in a T20 game on the weekend, he did far more damage with the bat, striking 137 runs off 62 balls.

"I've never seen anyone hit the ball so cleanly,” Ringwood skipper David King said.

"He couldn't stop hitting sixes, it didn't really matter where we put the field because he kept hitting it over their heads.

"We didn't bowl well and hit our areas consistently but in saying that it was some pretty impressive batting.”
