Taser 'phone' one of items recovered in drug raids

A TASER disguised as a mobile phone, a 0.22 rifle silencer and more than $8000 worth of cash are among the sinister items seized in four separate drug raids.

Eight people have been charged after plain-clothed detectives swooped on four properties in Shaw St, in Norville, Queen St and Hinkler Ave, both in North Bundaberg, and at Nielson's Rd, Bucca, today.

Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildred said about $8000 worth of methylamphetamine - more commonly known as speed - along with $8000 cash were allegedly discovered in the Shaw St home.

Alarmingly, a rifle silencer and a taser that, to the human eye, looked like nothing more than an old Nokia mobile phone were also seized in the search.

"These types of items are extremely concerning to police," Det Snr Sgt Hildred said.

Det Snr Sgt Hildred said a 30-year-old man had been charged with a range of offences including possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils, as well as the possession of restricted items.

Shortly after 11.30am yesterday, detectives discovered 205 marijuana plants - with the potential street value of more than $500,000 - growing on a property in Bucca.

About 700g of the dried drug was also allegedly seized.

"This particular search warrant was in relation to one of our current operations, Operation Lima Dinosaur," Det Snr Sgt Hildred said.

"The resident wasn't home at the time."

Det Snr Sgt Hildred said two people had been drug diverted following the raids.

"Distributors of dangerous drugs can expect these types of raid days to occur frequently," Det Snr Sgt Hildred said.
