Pirates finalise their Christmas wish list
Key personnel have been placed on top of Noosa Pirates' Christmas wish list as they head into 2021 with holes in the stockings.
The Pirates recently lost a trio of stars to rivals Maroochydore Swans in Brad Kent, Bart Hold and Rohan Messner.
They all played their junior footy with the Swans.
Coach Brett Winkler had no ill will to the three and said it was good for the health of the competition that they returned home.
Winkler said the club had retained key signings Alex Copelin and Kurtis Shayler, who would spend pre-season with Sunshine Coast Falcons.
Lock forward Tom Murphy has not yet put pen to paper with the Pirates.
Other clubs are rumoured to be circling.
Winkler said a club meeting on Wednesday night could trigger a couple of new signings.
"Alex and Kurtis are locked in, and otherwise we are OK, lost a couple of guys who are going back to Maroochydore, all those guys are very handy players, but I understand why," Winkler said.
"Our backs and halves are looking good, just need to agree to terms with some.
"So it's mainly our forwards we have to bolster up."
Winkler said the Pirates had a proven track record of providing a pathway to the Falcons and producing state-level calibre players.
"We are happy to look anywhere, if there's players on the Coast in those positions we are more than happy to look at them," he said.
"We have a great pathway and direct line of communication with the Falcons and are a competitive club."
