POLICE and fire experts are conducting an investigation into the cause of a fire that devastated a house in North Ipswich.

About 2am yesterday, emergency services were called to Lowry La that runs off Downs St following reports of a house engulfed in flames.

Police said the house was vacant at the time and was completely destroyed. No one was injured during the incident.

Officers guarded the scene overnight and scientific officers examine the scene in the morning.

Bundamba fire station officer Mark Stephenson said crews from Bundamba, Brassall, Karana Downs and Ripley were called to the fire. Four pumps, a command vehicle and 18 Queensland Fire and Emergency Services firefighters were involved, Mr Stephenson said.

"When we got there the dwelling was 95% on fire," he said.

"We protected the houses either side. The main fire was out within two hours."

A neighbour who didn't want their name published said they were woken by "a big bang" about 2.15am.

"It was an explosion sort of thing," she said.

"There was a lot of flames. The house is disintegrated. There's basically nothing left.
