Police reveal how former Coast chef Peter Milos died

FORMER Sunshine Coast chef Peter Milos was bludgeoned to death with a spirit level and a hammer by a friend who minutes later walked into KFC, police will allege.

The chef's final phone call was to his mother in the presence of an alleged killer whom he had invited in to a Morningside house via a text message, "Just open garage door", News Corp reported on Friday.

New Zealander James Thomas Howell is accused of delivering 13 blows to the head of Milos and leaving the crime scene with a green bag stained with the victim's blood.

The Courier-Mail said the case against Howell hinges on the bag, the text message and CCTV footage placing him near the crime scene shortly before and after Milos' suspected time of death.

Detectives have not revealed a motive.

High-profile criminal defence lawyer Adam Magill said Mr Howell was "devastated" by the charge and would plead not guilty.

Peter Milos was a former Maroochydore State High School student.
