Policeman's thumb bitten to the bone in violent scuffle

A COAST policeman has had his thumb gnawed to the bone and another had his arm bitten in a scuffle with a man outside the Sunshine Coast Council Chambers at Nambour.

The senior constables were on foot patrol about 6pm yesterday when they came across a man in a "distressed state".

Police said the man reacted  violently when the officers tried to subdue him.

The man then bit a policeman's thumb, chomping down to the bone during the wrestle.

The other policeman use capsicum spray on the attacker before his arm was also bitten by the man.

Police said a member of the public assisted the officers to subdue the man, who was arrested.

All three were taken to Nambour General Hospital for treatment.
