Possible thunderstorm forecast for Capricornia

RAIN is falling and thunder is rumbling in skies across Capricornia this afternoon with the chance of a thunderstorm forecast.

A weak ridge of high pressure extends along the tropical east coast.

A series of upper level troughs will move eastwards across Queensland over the next few days while the inland surface trough will remain almost stationary from the Gulf Country through the central west to the southeast inland, with low level moisture gradually increasing to its east.

The Bureau of Meteorology are predicting the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon with winds becoming northeasterly 15-20km/h.

Queensland weather forecasters Higgins Storm Chasing said storms were active near the coast from Yeppoon to Deepwater including Gladstone and Rockhampton, and areas such as Rockhampton may experience a direct thunderstorm hit.

"Small hail and heavy rain are expected with these storms as they track north slowly," HSC said.
