LETTER OF THE DAY: Postage rise will hit our most vulnerable
READER COMMENT: LET'S stamp out the intention of Australia Post to increase the postage stamp price to $1.50 next year.
A rise to 70c, just before Christmas this year, wasn't enough?
Who does it hit most? Our elderly and small business are sensitive to any rise in the cost of living.
The elderly are least likely to shop online or send electronic messages. They are the least computer-savvy, relying on letters with personal messages to connect with family and friends.
Australia Post has upped the price of parcels, just when internet shopping has become an ever-expanding cultural trend.

That's not enough? The introduction of 60c stamps for seniors only during the year, rather than the rise to 70c, to reduce the cost of postage throughout the year for a mandatory limit of 50 stamps, doesn't include extra discounts for the Christmas output.
They must pay the 65c which, in the future, may be $1.50. This is both a cruel blow to these elderly folk who rely on sending letters and cards.
They deserve better; not the greed and lack of Christmas spirit from big corporations set on passing on their costs and high salaries onto a captive public.
It is pure exploitation and profiteering.
Christmas is a time when we need more compassion displayed by powers which control our economy.
