IT ASTOUNDS me that our indebted council has agreed to spend close to one million dollars of ratepayers money to move Coolum's historic community centre onto scarce green space in a residential area adjacent to a kindergarten on the corner of Jones Parade and Banksia Avenue, Coolum.
This ludicrous decision was taken despite a petition of 1000 signatures opposing the move and a lack of community consultation.
The historic building is currently conveniently located in Jack Morgan park adjacent to the Civic Centre, library, shops and ample parking.
The proposed site is totally unsuitable as it will involve the destruction of green space containing 40-50 native melleluca trees.
As stated above it is adjacent to a kindergarten and surrounded by residential properties and will lead to noise, traffic and potential social problems.
Local residents treasure this peaceful vicinity with its adjoining wildlife corridor abounding with birdlife.
And where is our local councillor Steve Robinson?
His deafening silence leads me to assume he voted for this ill-conceived waste of money.
Stand up for those you represent councillor before it's too late.
