Protest against QLD Government's uranium mining plans

IN a protest against the Queensland Government's plans to allow uranium mining in this state, a small group of people marked the three-year anniversary of the Fukushima triple nuclear meltdown in Japan in Brisbane.

Campaign co-ordinator Mark Bailey said Keep Queensland Nuclear Free and Friends of the Earth wanted to make the point that it was Australian uranium involved in the disaster.

"We don't think Queensland should be contributing to future crises by uranium mining in Queensland," he said.

Mr Bailey said Queensland would begin accepting applications for mining uranium from July this year.

The 25 people had a 6m by 1.7m painted banner as well as other anti-nuclear signs when they met in the rain at Southbank on Tuesday morning.
