Qld Labor votes against MPs massive pay rises

THE Queensland Labor Caucus has voted against supporting the politician pay rise set by the independent remuneration tribunal.

Instead, it is calling on the LNP to use its to majority "fix" the "mess".

In a statement released after Friday's meeting, Opposition leader Annastacia Palaszczuk said Premier Campbell Newman needed to address the issue at the next cabinet meeting, by considering "urgent legislation to scrap this determination and ask the Tribunal to revisit its decision".

"That legislation should contain Labor Party amendments to ensure increases reflect those for public sector employees under their core agreement," she said.

"If the Newman Cabinet does not act on Monday, Labor MPs are committed to ensuring this money supports their communities and helps fight the LNP's cuts."

Ms Palaszczuk was due to receive about an $80,000 pay rise due to her position as opposition leader, while salaries of the remaining seven Labor MPs were all due an increase because of their committee roles.
