Queensland bodyboard titles are won in style

BODYBOARDING: Sunshine Coast competitors made their presence felt at the Queensland Bodyboarding Titles, which came to an end on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Among those to impress were Yandina Creek's Gary Thatcher and Peregian Springs' Alex Boggis, who claimed victories in the second of two events to shore up state crowns.

The former was the standout rider in the open men's drop knee division, firing through the rounds to expand on his victory from the first leg.

Meanwhile, Boggis produced some aerial moves to impress those on the beach.

He edged another Peregian contender, Lucas Gengos, to win the Under-18 title. Boggis also finished second in the open men's standings, behind Palm Beach's Calen Jordan, who won both legs of the series.

Mermaid Waters' Britt Ladley claimed her third open women's state title in as many years.

Punchy waves of 1.5m were on offer at Duranbah Beach for the event, which featured barrel rides in the morning. Some SE winds in the afternoon created tougher conditions.
