Raids net marijuana crops

MARIJUANA crops have been confiscated and 14 people arrested in a series of drug raids on the Fraser Coast.

The offenders will face court on 32 drug-related charges, including producing, supplying and possessing dangerous drugs.

Detective Senior Sergeant Nikki Colfs said police had searched properties at Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Boonooroo.

On Monday, two properties in Boonooroo, south-east of Maryborough, were raided and police uncovered large quantities of cannabis.

As a result, a 40-year-old man will face a raft of charges, including producing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils and items suspected of being used in a crime. He will front court in Maryborough on October 9.

Further charges are expected to be laid against a 68-year-old man.

Meanwhile, a targeted one-day operation in Maryborough and Hervey Bay has resulted in more marijuana plants unearthed and further charges laid.

Operation Jenna was carried out by detectives from the Maryborough District CIB, the Tactical Crime Squad and general duties police, who searched eight properties.

A Maryborough man was charged with possessing and supplying dangerous drugs after his John St home was searched.

Two other people at the residence were also charged following the discovery of a large quantity of marijuana.

Snr Sgt Colfs said the arrests were the result of tip-offs from the public.

"Detectives thank the community for their assistance in providing this information, which has seen a number of people charged with drug-related offences in the last two weeks," she said.
