Rapist and murderer to be kept in jail after appeal

ATTORNEY-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie has welcomed a decision by the Court of Appeal to keep a convicted killer and rapist in prison.

The Attorney-General had directed the Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal a decision by the Supreme Court to release Mark Richard Lawrence on a supervision order in May, 2014.

"Mark Richard Lawrence's violent history spans three decades, including manslaughter, rape and escape from custody," Mr Bleijie said.

"The Government will always fight to ensure dangerous offenders are kept away from the community," Mr Bleijie said.
