RUGBY LEAGUE: Reigning Sunshine Coast division one premier Maroochydore has re-appointed Brett Winkler as coach.

The boys from Wises Rd understand that while 2016 was a great year for the club - regaining their first top tier title since 2000 - all the hard work needs to start again to continue the momentum.

In 2016 'The Swannies' featured all of their three senior teams on grand final day, culminating in the drought-breaking A-grade win.

"It was one of those rare occasions where we used big numbers of players across the season (40) which goes against the norm of somewhere in the mid-high twenties at this level,” Winkler stated.

"We had great talent and depth to draw on and that will hold us in good stead for 2017, particularly when due to a host of reasons across the season, we had to blood a number of younger players particularly from our 18s.

"They really owned up and showed that over the next two years they will be knocking on the door for a spot in the top grade.”

To keep the momentum rolling, the Swans have again re-appointed Jordan Dwyer as club president with the large majority of the committee staying on while adding some great new people to the fold.

"I'm rapt to be at the helm again and the success of this season was a testimony to all the outstanding work from everyone on and off the field who contributed to the GF victory,” Dwyer said.

"We also had our other two senior grades appearing on the big day. We're aiming high again in 2017.”

As for expectations in 2017, Winkler was to the point.

"That's really an external thing and for supporters to wish for which is great,” he said.

"But what we have built now is a confidence and self-belief that sets a whole new standard in the club.

"We overcame some huge challenges last year and the experience built some great stores of resilience and experience and in 2017 we will need to draw on them as we need to set the bar higher for ourselves.

"Everyone will be after us, every week that's for sure. We just want to have fun, be highly competitive each week and make the finals, then it's game on.”

It will be a huge year for the club with the new ground facilities now fully operational and a major announcement to come before Christmas that will create Swans history.
