Rooney could be out for two months

MEDICAL experts say Manchester United star Wayne Rooney could be out for two months, double the estimate of the original prognosis following his horrific injury in the 3-2 win over Fulham on Saturday night.

The UK's Daily Mirror reported surgeons were shocked at the horrific extent of Rooney's gashed right thigh.

Doctors at the Manchester hospital where the England striker was taken could not believe the size and depth of the wound, caused when the studs on the right boot of Fulham's Hugo Rodallega ripped into Rooney's skin.

The 26-year-old went under general anaesthetic and required one long weaving stitch inside his leg to tie the wound, in addition to a further 10 to pull the skin together.

Rooney was kept in hospital overnight.
