A TOUCH of royalty will hit the streets of Noosa later this month, with the 1967 Rolls-Royce Phantom V used to drive Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Sydney in 1973 heading to the Sunshine Coast for the 25th Anniversary "Royal Jubilee" Noosa Beach Classic Car Show.
Rolls-Royce and Bentley have been named as the "Marque of this Year" for the car show's milestone event, being held on the Queen's Jubilee long weekend on Sunday, September 30.
Chair of the Noosa Beach Classic Car Show Garry Bates said the inclusion of the "Queen's car" in this special anniversary event is a major coup for the Coast, providing car enthusiasts a unique opportunity to get up close to a rare piece of motoring history.
The car is one of just 516 Rolls-Royce Phantom Vs, built between 1959 and 1968.
It was first owned by the Federal Government and used for escorting visiting royalty, including her Royal Highness, as well as heads of state and the governor-general of the day. The car now belongs to the Sir Henry
Royce Foundation in Melbourne, which agreed to allow the car to be brought up to Noosa for the 25th anniversary event in the hope it may encourage other owners of Rolls-Royce memorabilia to share their special pieces of history.
It will be driven by the former national president and founding Queensland president of the Rolls-Royce Club Fred Haughtey.
The remarkable vehicle will be the centrepiece of an exciting range of classic cars set to parade along Hastings St at Noosa Heads, and be displayed at Noosa Woods Reserve on Sunday, September 30.
Last year's event attracted thousands of visitors and organisers are expecting an even bigger turnout for this year's special milestone, with exhibitors sharing their love of classic cars with local car enthusiasts and tourists from throughout Queensland and interstate.
