Sandbar has been there since the start

SINCE "the beginning of time" there has been a sandbar at Dayman Point, councillor Trevor McDonald said.

Finding out why it was caused is not the focus of the Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Community chatter puts the blame on the Urangan Boat Harbour rock wall, built in the 1960s and 70s.

Cr McDonald would not lay blame, instead focussing on getting the sand back on the beaches.

"There is no doubt in my mind that it is increasing," he said.

Light sand is being carried up the Sandy Strait from River Heads and washing over the spit.

Cr McDonald said the larger-grain sand was being trapped on the bar, causing it to extend.
