Schoolies celebrations officially kick off with few arrests

OFFICIAL Schoolies celebrations kicked off last night and already several school-leavers have been arrested for various offences.

Seven schoolies were arrested on 11 offences, mainly public nuisance and drug possession.

There were 19 non-schoolies people arrested on 25 charges, mainly for public nuisance and good order offences.

Police said in a release issued this morning they were "pleased with the behaviour of schoolies."

On Friday night only one schoolie was arrested on drug-related charges.

He was found with what police believed to be MDMA tablets and cash on his person.

12 non-schoolies were also charged with 23 offences.
