Driver who allegedly fled scene of crash to face court
THE driver of a car who allegedly fled the scene of a Hervey Bay crash in which two children were critically injured will face court on Tuesday.
Police confirmed multiple charges had been laid against the 43-year-old male driver of a station wagon that collided with a van in Sunshine Acres about 5pm on Saturday.
A police spokesman said five people were in the van at the time of the crash.
He said all were injured, including a seven-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy who had critical injuries.
The girl has since been flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital and the boy was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital.
It is believed the children remained in a critical condition on Sunday night.
Police confirmed the man had been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and failing to remain at the scene of a crash and provide medical assistance.
He has also been charged with driving without learner plates displayed and failure to comply with learning requirements.
