ONE of the nation's top legal firms is set to acquire long-time Sunshine Coast operation Schultz Toomey O'Brien Lawyers.

The move was announced to the Australian Stock Exchange yesterday morning.

The head of Slater & Gordon Lawyers in Australia, Ken Fowlie, said the purchase was subject to further due diligence and the execution of transaction documents.

"We are excited about the opportunity to join forces with one of Queensland's most established and respected regional law firms," Mr Fowlie said.

"Schultz Toomey O'Brien bring with them highly skilled, experienced staff and both our firms share a strong ethos of working hard to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients."

Schultz Toomey O'Brien managing partner Travis Schultz said he believed that by combining the experience and talents of both firms, they would be in a position to offer clients the best service to achieve the best outcomes.

"In addition, by joining with Slater & Gordon, we'll be able to achieve economies of scale that will provide an avenue for continued growth and career paths for our team," he said.

"And because Slater & Gordon share our community focus and values, it's a win-win situation."
