SMEs target of state’s Small Business Week

QUEENSLAND Small Business Week is coming up in the first week of September, and the aim this year is to support, connect and build local SMEs.

The Queensland Government is hosting a breakfast event at the University of the Sunshine Coast on September 3 featuring US CEO Tom Szaky.

His business has been called the "Google of garbage" and the "coolest little start-up in America".

TerraCycle has received international attention for its innovative recycling of used cigarette butts into consumer goods.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Coast Council is hosting workshops and forums as part of the week (scroll down for details).

"These free and low-cost events will help business owners with a range of skills - including developing business goals and business management systems - and will provide valuable networking opportunities," Cr Stephen Robinson said.

Sunshine Coast events include:

Demystifying Business Management Systems' workshop - September 2

Sunshine Coast Industry Network Forum - September 2

Up and Running workshops (developing your small business goals) - September 4
