SOAPBOX: Show retail staff some respect this Christmas

IT'S under one month until Christmas is here and that means it's probably time to start getting organised.

After writing a story in today's paper on Christmas meats I can't wait to grab a turducken and eat delicious food until I physically can't eat any more.

Food I feel is the easy part though, present shopping is a whole different ball game.

It's hard to drag yourself to Sunshine Plaza on a quiet day but now you've got to do it at the same time as thousands of other shoppers.

Finding a park can be testing, getting stuck behind a slow walker while you're trying to get your shopping done in world record time can be tough and then waiting in the queue to the register can be even tougher.

But, I want to give a shout out to the unsung heroes of Christmas shopping - the retail staff.

I think it's bad that I have to deal with it for three hours on one day in the lead-up to Christmas but these troopers are there multiple days for eight-hour shifts dealing with crazed customers that are so focused on getting little Jimmy the exact Lego set he wants that they often forget their manners.

So on behalf of the Sunshine Coast I want to say thanks to the retail staff who tolerate things they really shouldn't have to and to all the shoppers out there don't forget your patience, pleases and thank yous.
